Can diving too deep crush you?

I heard that going too deep underwater can crush you because of the pressure… is that actually true?

It’s partly true. The deeper you go, the more the pressure compresses your body, but usually, it’s the air in your lungs that’s most affected.

Exactly. Freedivers train to handle this. Their lungs compress, but their bodies adapt within limits.

It’s rare for people to get crushed. But submarines and equipment can implode if they go too deep without proper design.
