Can you swim with yeast infection?

Hi, this is for my female swimmers. For those of you who swim frequently, how often do you get a yeast infection?

For background, I swim for one to two hours three times a week in a chlorinated pool. For three months, I have been doing this consistently. I change as soon as I exit the pool since I know it is not healthy to be in a wet swimsuit for an extended time. Considering all the safety measures I am doing, I was wondering if it is conceivable that the pool contains too much chlorine, which is why I recently developed a yeast infection.

While chlorine is not a direct cause of yeast infections, frequent swimming can lead to an imbalance that makes you more susceptible.

Despite years of swimming, I’ve only ever had one when taking a lot of antibiotics.

When putting on clothes, make sure you’re nice and dry and change out of your swimsuit as quickly as possible.

Thanks Keith for the information. Although it’s encouraging to hear that chlorine isn’t the only factor, I will keep an eye out for any potential imbalance brought on by regular swimming. Do you have any advice on how to avoid this when routinely swimming?

Hi, Julias. Swimming with a yeast infection is normally safe, although caution should be exercised. Yeast infections are not contagious, thus there is no risk of spreading them. However, the wet climate of swimming pools can aggravate symptoms and prolong the infection.
