Cold pool, hot Jacuzzi!
Cold. I feel like I’m going to pass out swimming in a hot pool. It also makes it significantly hard to put my all into the workout.
Colder the better. If you are swimming laps it helps dissipate the heat.
Cold for sure.
Most warm pools are too warm for more than a few laps. Great for lessons. The kiddos don’t shiver. Also good for aqua aerobics.
Colder water for lap swimming. Warm water for lounging.
Define cold and warm. I prefer between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius. So for non-swimmers, a cold pool.
Heated, but not too warm.
Definitely depends on the temp of both. Swimming in overly warm pools isn’t fun (and could cause overheating as others have said). But a too cold pool sucks. It can feel like you never fully warm/loosen up.
I say try both and go with whichever feels comfortable to you.
Whichever one is outside.
I think it’d depend on your use-case but mostly cold pool. If you are doing a max speed sprint set with lots of inactive recovery (like several minutes of doing nothing between each sprinting bout) the warm pool will probably be better to stay warm between efforts. Anything else from like 100-specific workouts to easy aerobic workouts, you’d want the cold pool to prevent you from overheating.
Heated.
Where I live absolutely the one with heated water as an unheated pool is simply too cold here. That said, we have a warmer and cooler heated pool where I work and I prefer the cooler pool. The cooler pool is at like 82.
Depends on how hot and how cold.
I remember somewhat vividly the experience that I had with heated (outdoor) pool more than a decade ago, it belonged to a community college. I didn’t remember the exact temperature, which was perhaps around 80°F. It somehow enabled me to swim longer than what I accustomed to (back then I wasn’t a good swimmer); I usually needed a rest after a short lap at that time; the warm pool tricked my body into going further.
It was lucky coincidence, and by the time my next visit to that same pool, it was no longer heated (ever). Perhaps they were checking whether the heater still worked.
Heated at 79-80 degrees.
Where are these pools located? Barbados? Finland?
HOT! 84+ baby… What slows everyone else down only makes me stronger!
At my current gym there’s a hot rec pool and a cool fitness pool. Both are 25 yards so meh.
If I feel cold and do my warmup in the warm pool then switch over to the cool pool for the actual work.
This morning the temp for my walk to the pool was -8°C (17°F), getting into the nice warm water felt amazing.
