If you shave all the time, you’ll lose sensitivity over time If you’ve had a beard for long, a clean shave makes your jaw feel odd Same with shaved legs Bed sheets become ticklish, your pants tickle
But this doesn’t last forever so shaving is usually for big comps
When we were tapering for States or other big meets, my teammates wouldn’t shave We’d wear the most drag and old suits over regular ones during practice (my record is 10) We would shave the night before the meet though Dudes on taper would shave and it was cute watching teenage boys experience freshly shaved legs
No, except when competing because it’s a hassle I’m not very hairy but it does make a difference Even not wearing a swim cap and having short hair has an impact
I’ve shaved twice in my life and not even fully either time The first was lifeguarding at a water park and most guys did so I joined in (and regretted it when the hair grew back on my chest) The second time was my first swim at a USMS national meet and honestly it wasn’t worth the effort for me my times were about the same as the last meet in the same pool
Now I might do some spot shaving but I still remember how a t-shirt feels against my hair growing back on my chest

People usually shave to reduce drag right How much does body hair really impact swimming
I’m pretty hairy and I think shaving my arms and back could make me faster but I’d need solid proof it saves multiple seconds per 100 meters before I commit
I’m pretty sure improving my technique is a better approach
