Hey all,
I’m thinking of getting a whole house water softener and I have an inground saltwater pool. Does anyone have experience with both? What are the pros and cons of using a water softener in this situation? Any advice would be helpful!
I do not soften my outside water, it is hazardous for plants and grass.
I have a water softener for my whole house. I don’t own a saltwater inground pool. Aquasure Harmony Series 48,000 Grains Water Softener is the model I use. I’ve been pleased with mine; it’s really made a difference, particularly in terms of how much kinder the water is to my skin and hair. An added plus is the enhanced lathering of shampoos and soaps!
@BreaststrokeBuff Thank you for your input.
When topping up your pool, you should be able to switch your exterior faucets that supply softened water into bypass mode. If not, it should just imply consuming a little bit extra salt.
@AquaAdventurer Indeed. Additionally, when the softener is bypassed, at least with ours—we have a manual fill valve plugged into the pool—the water fills more quickly. If I’m just topping off, I don’t bother bypassing, but when I perform a true partial drain and fill, I do.
