Finally back in the pool!

I finally after a 3 week inability to walk got to the pool today. I intended to just chill in the spa but worked up the courage to start my swim.

I swam 48 laps (should be a mile but this says over 2 miles…) and I used my hydro revolution workout gear.

2 things I’m curious about:
1- omg I got so much gas after… does this happen to y’all too?
2- how accurate are smart watches for distance. Mine says I went 3590 meters which is like 2 miles. But the gym pool says the 48 laps is a mile.

Wow those calories??? I usually only get 500-600 for 3300 yards. I use garmin.

Yeah something is up with that calorie estimate haha. Especially at 125 avg hr.

Omg exactly my thoughts but I did not want to keep pressuring this person. Heart rate and the avg pace… I hardly ever got above a 1000 calories maybe this person has a large body mass… who knows?

@Haze
I weigh 390. Yes I’m fat. And I’m cool with questions. Wasn’t getting notifications or I’d have replied faster.

Omg please! I did not at all imply and please accept my apologies. I was just trying to say that it takes a lot more calories to move a larger body: tall and thus weighing more.

Btw swimming is an excellent exercise for almost all but especially for people who weigh more and for people who have mobility issues like me! Definitely makes me ravenous afterwards!

@Haze
You didn’t say I’m fat. I did. No worries. It’s hard to get in the mindset to lose the weight if we don’t address the problem. Yeah I’m 6’1 390. That’s the only reason for the high caloric burn I think.

125 average for almost 2 hours. And I take small breaks where my hr will drop.

I get about 500 max at 1:40/100m.

Not gas just ravenous hungry after a swim.

That’s the cold water… it’s great for ya.

I am an ice swimmer in a previous life. My Garmin never adjusted calories burned to the water temp. In fact when I open water swim oddly how Garmin estimated much lower calories burned. What was the water temp? Just curious.

@Haze
Oh the calories burned is from the distance and my body composition that I put in. It was prob 70 degrees.

I doubt there is any pool in the US where the temp is <70f. I believe they regulate water temp.

@Haze
Yes but 70f is about 20 degrees shy of your normal body temp. Almost 30 degrees. The water saps the heat out of you and your body is constantly fighting to maintain homeostasis. So your body burns calories trying to get back up to temp. That’s why you’re ravenous after. But if you swim in a heated pool it won’t be so bad.

@Dawson
All pools in my area are heated. But I don’t know that I could swim very long in sub 77 f water. I agree cold water swimming is an excellent exercise!

I find that if you’re swimming hard the cold won’t bother you.

@Dawson
I used to weigh 40 pounds more and swam open water year round in the mid-Atlantic area. I am familiar with the cold and its positive effects.

I am not doing that anymore. I probably could but I don’t. I get cold even in the heated pool now.

Like I said there are heated outside pools in my area which I frequent but they are in the 80s water temp.

@Dawson
Right!

Awesome! Nothing like getting the freeing feeling of swimming esp when dealing with an injury!
