They were wondering how you only burned 544 calories and I provided a theory, and then I was asked what a faster pace would be so I gave my insight. I wasn’t even talking to you.
Running around calling people slow in a subreddit that’s supposed to include people of all skill levels is pretty shitty dude.
@Sidney
I will restate again: I was merely providing a theory to the low calorie burn. I wasn’t “running around and calling people slow.” What is slow for me may be fast for you which is great that you would be going fast/improving. I took a three-year break from swimming and couldn’t even 200 yards consecutively when I got back in the water for the first time three years ago. I don’t judge people on their ability levels. I was speaking in a matter-of-fact manner. If your ego is that fragile that you freak out like this then maybe you shouldn’t be posting here. I’ve asked for technique criticism on this sub before and people told me matter-of-factly, “your head is too high while breathing,” “you aren’t kicking enough,” “your tempo should be faster,” and I didn’t freak out.
@Ridley
I’m freaking out? The projection is going crazy right now. Dude I didn’t post the essay. You literally said my pace was slow. It’s in the comments. You could’ve worded it differently to be more respectful. I don’t have an ego problem lol. I’m pointing out your disrespect.

How’s you only burn 544 calories? Are you super fit?
Their 100 pace was also extremely slow (no judgement), I think that had something to do with it
I would not say it’s slow (let alone extremely slow) and in any case, the pace does not really affect the calorie burn estimate by the watch/app. It is related more to the heart rate, weight and seemingly the style (eg fly and breast seem to push up the estimated calorie burn even when swimming at the same heart rate).
That is my goal swim. I’ve never had that happen even when I was swimming 5k for over 2 1/2 hours. I use to swim 5k 1-2 days a week but didn’t watch the time. I’m working on building my endurance back after being out for 7 surgeries and a rotator cuff impingement. I was wondering what pace I would need. Haven’t done the calculations. It will take me a couple of years to get there. I am so enjoying the time when I can just swim nonstop and feel the water. I stopped at 3.5 today because I don’t know how much I can go without hurting my shoulder. So far feeling great. Congrats on your swim and time. Keep it up!
I’m so proud of you! I’ve just started unlearning and relearning how to swim (I’m 45) and I was proud of doing 500m in 40 mins lol! But I’m going to get better!
Sorry, I might have had it backwards. Is 25 yards or meters standard? The only other length of pool I have trained in is 50m, and I’m new to shorter pools.
@Sidney
In the US there are a lot of 25 yard pools. I’m not sure why, but many of them are old (my high school pool was initially built in the 1940’s I think). More recent aquatic centers have Olympic pools.

Aren’t all pools measured in meters? Yeah off topic but I am curious
The standard for most US pools is 25 yards. This is mostly due to the US never switching over to the metric system and sticking with the Imperial units of distance. This article is a nice breakdown on it: https://blog.chloramineconsulting.com/olympic-swimming-pool-size
