Doing yard work has caused a lot of dust and sand to get into my inground pool in South Texas. I have a vacuum, but I’m hoping the main drain can filter most of it out. If I shut off the side skimmers, will that increase suction to the main drain to help filter the sand and sediment through the sand filter? I’d like to avoid vacuuming if possible.
TIA.

Indeed, it will. But you may end up jamming the cover holes.

@AquaAdventurer What do you mean by “jamming the cover holes”? I had the pool renovated some years ago, and they went over basic upkeep, but I live out in the country and do not have pool service. I am learning as I go.

@BreaststrokeBuff Does your main drain have a normal cover on it? The sand or sediment might plug the openings in the lid.

@AquaAdventurer There are two major drains. There are openings on the top and around the sides.

@BreaststrokeBuff I’m saying the openings are tiny, so it might clog if a lot of debris is rubbed into it. But there’s generally nothing serious; simply keep cleaning the lid if it becomes blocked.

Thank you very much. I’ve removed all the debris. It’s only fine dirt and sand. So I’ll work on it tomorrow. I appreciate your wisdom!
