Is this speed normal?

I’ve been swimming for a few months and I can’t seem to pass the 1:15sec (I did improve my speed tho) mark at 50m freestyle. Google says a beginner does it in ~50sec. My question is, is this speed normal at first or am I doing something terribly wrong ?(also I’m short, does that affect anything?)

A common issue is lifting your head, causing legs to sink. Breathe sideways and keep head, hips, and heels aligned just below the surface for better buoyancy. A video would help with advice

I breathe every 3 strokes(my head is to the side half in the water), may that be what affects my speed? I’ll try to take a vid but it may take a few days bc the pools side lanes are often occupied. Thanks

No, but breathe to the side! Breathing every three strokes is fine. Keep your chin tucked to improve body position; look straight down and sideways when breathing.

Breathing likely isn’t your major issue. Focus on pulling, not climbing through the water. Imagine slithering forward: extend your arm, then pull your body past it with a lower hand. Aim for a strong catch and pull with a small kick for stability.

Google is wrong; 50m in 50 seconds isn’t a beginner pace. Aim for 50m in a minute. Check your head position, reach straight forward, and count your strokes to improve efficiency.
