J & J Electronics In-Ground Pool Light Not Working

Hi all,

I recently bought a J & J Electronics In-Ground Pool LED light (12v, 32w) for $109, but it’s not working. I even tried it in another fixture (a kitchen lamp), and still nothing. Replaced it with another of the same model, but had the same problem.

Has anyone had experience with these lights? Are they reliable? I’ve seen prices range from $90 to $134.

Thanks!

Just to clarify, is your fixture low voltage? Low voltage fixtures that use screw-in bulbs are pretty rare, at least where I am. A kitchen light with low voltage screw-in bulbs is almost unheard of. If you put a low voltage bulb into a 120v socket, I’d expect it to get damaged unless the bulb has some kind of overload, fuse, or reset protection. If it is low voltage, the next step would be to test the voltage coming from the transformer and then check it again at the socket.

In my experience, the bulbs are usually reliable and come with a silicone gasket, which helps create a good seal.

@Terryanne I’m not sure what kind of household fixture it is, but I assume it’s 120v since I live in the US.

The pool fixture is made by PENTAIR, and the label says 120v.

So the 12v light they sold me doesn’t work with the 120v fixture?

Remember to replace the light gasket if it’s an old halogen light. J&J is fine for non-color replacement bulbs, but I usually go with Phillips. It really just depends on whether the gasket wears out.

@Umbrielle
Yes, I did replace the gasket.

@Sadie Yeah, I usually use Phillips for lower-watt bulbs, but I don’t do it often because most people switch to enclosed LED lights.
