I know for all you swimmers who swam on teams in your youth and college this isn’t special, but for someone who started swimming regularly only at age 40, reaching 16min/1000m is a big step. It took me about a year to go from 18min to 16min. This is on long course without flip turns; I still haven’t learned those.
I’m happy if I do that in 45 min.

That is about what I do.
That’s impressive! Congrats!

Thanks!
As a non-youth swimmer, I feel you. Congrats! I’m not far ahead of you, and once I got to the 16min mark (well, I went for 32min 2000), the thoughts immediately went to 15min 1000, so next stop for me is trying to get to a 30min 2k.
@Cael
Well done!! Yes, my next goal is to extend it to 1500m. And 15/1000m is a biggie!! Good luck!

Same to you! Getting to the 1:30 mark will be a big milestone! I come several 100 repeats under 1:20 with short rest, but I just can’t piece it together over anything over 200m.
Great! Fellow adult learner here. Finally got my pace from about 2:30 to 2:20, and am hoping to keep dropping it… A 20-minute 1k is my dream.

Well done!! The Effortless Swimming program has helped me a lot!
@Jalen
I love their channel!
Great time!! Just a couple suggestions: #1 - learn flip turns; they are much easier (and faster) than open turns. #2 - train using interval sets (if you don’t already). I typically swim 2x500m, 6x200m, 5x100m, and 10x50m plus kicking. 200’s are my favorite as you can both build endurance and add speed! (And time everything to monitor progress!)
@Wil
Yes, I started interval sets a few months ago. They really help! I love the 250m to push myself.
Good effort!
That’s excellent. I swam in my youth and can’t do that yet #goals.
Brilliant. I’ve been pottering along at 20/22 for years. No flip. 50m pool.

Effortless Swimming YouTube videos have really helped me improve technique.
My 1000 meter practice takes me almost 45 minutes. I am 55.
Long course, no flip turns?! That’s a great time!

Thanks! I worked with a buddy to tweak my stroke, and that cut another few seconds.
