Dinner, and I have a love for sugary cereal
I started at 45 and now I’m 62. I train three times a week and I’m happiest when swimming. I recently challenged myself with a 5-kilometer swim in a canal, and now I want to try swimming in the ocean
Swimming is a mix of meditation, exercise, and arthritis therapy all in one. Plus, there’s the happiness boost from endorphins.
I’m about to turn 68 and started lessons at 7. I’m slower than I was in my 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, but swimming feels natural, and I still begin each session by swimming 25 meters underwater just for fun. I also want to keep going so I don’t let down the regulars at the 7:00 am community pool
I enjoy participating in a couple of local triathlons each summer; keeping those events in mind encourages me to keep training through winter
How old are you? I taught myself to swim at 28, and it was amazing. I hadn’t been particularly good at any sport before, but swimming just felt right. Being underwater is meditative and feels like home. I’m now able to do the butterfly, albeit not with great skill yet. But the sheer intensity makes it rewarding, especially after I get out of the pool
I lost to a friend who hardly swims in a 100 yards match in late 2023. Now I’m just dying for my revenge.
(And he refuses to accept my challenges since then Lol)
Swimming offers me a break from dealing with my mental health. When I feel anxious, I swim laps to focus on my pull, kick, timing, and turns. It’s basically a getaway from everything, and I aspire to earn a gold medal in state college competitions
Honestly, I’m not even sure. I’ve been consistently swimming for about a year, and I’m scared that if I stop, I won’t be able to start again.
It feels amazing when I’m in the water—like a million bucks. You know that runner’s high? It’s similar but the recovery aspect is rough now that I’m 43
Definitely for mental health and fitness. Not that swimming is always enjoyable lol but I definitely feel way better after a session. It’s a great way to reduce stress
To improve my times and also to keep me active and happy
My first goal was to complete a half Oceanman (5 km), which I successfully finished last year
I’m training for pararescue
