Great tips! I tend to start well, but once I’m out of breath, my technique and glide go downhill. I’ll focus on exhaling and gliding as you suggested.

How long did it take you to achieve this balance? I’ve heard it just ‘clicks’ for some people, resulting in exponential distance improvements.
For beginners, completing a 200 IM or 400 IM race can show mastery of all 4 strokes.
If you’re not proficient yet, aiming to complete a 50 or 100 meter race in all four strokes is a good target.

Consistency. For example, swim any distance three times a week.

Technique. Example: learn to swim front crawl breathing to the side.
Try to swim a mile without stopping (1600m). That’s 64 lengths in a 25m pool.
