I drained my gunite pool to replace the tile. Is there any cleaning or other tasks I should tackle before filling it back up?
You could replace the main drain covers with new VGB ones and update the lights or switch out older fixtures for LED lights while the pool is empty.
Clean the surface by acid washing it. However, if you feel it’s unnecessary, you can skip that step.
If it fits your plans, you could also paint it.
Make sure to replace the drain covers.
Keep it light.
It’s best to do the surface cleaning when the pool is empty.
Just a reminder: try not to leave the pool empty for too long—ideally no more than a week or two.
Get to the bottom of the pool and remove the hydrostatic plug from the drain, or you might face a costly error.
@CurrentCraze I just received a call from someone who experienced this, and while the pool didn’t burst, it seems the shell has split in two.
I appreciate all the suggestions. Will an acid wash help even out the plaster color?
@Sadie Yes, it essentially cleans the plaster and removes stains. If the pool is empty, I would recommend doing it. You might also consider replacing any drain covers or pop-ups (if you have them) while you’re at it.
