This place is a really cool spring-fed pool that has a consistent temperature. Today was 80 in Austin and the pool felt nice at about 70.
This is my first time trying to do proper swimming technique outside of a lap pool. Honestly, it was pretty intimidating since it is about 8 times longer than my 25m lap pool.
I was trying to swim efficiently and for distance to train for my 2km cold lake swim. I have had trouble stringing 3 laps together in the lap pool when I use the technique I am working on.
I felt like I had a breakthrough in the water today. When I looked straight down, I felt like I was crawling over the bottom of the pool and really catching the water.
For my last length, I swam from the crawl without stopping till the end. It felt tiring, but also so good to feel more comfortable with the water.
I have so many fond memories of swimming here! In the summer, after a swim, I swear my core body temp went down and made it so much easier to sleep in the heat.
Oh! And swimming at dusk in late summer/early fall when the bats would dip down to skim bugs off the water. Magical!
I swim there most weekends in winter, and was there on Sunday morning. It is a great option for when the area lakes are a bit chilly… but in summer, it gets a bit busy and tough to actually swim.

Yeah, I could see that happening. I almost ran into a few people and it wasn’t even very full.
