I’m looking to invest in a good pair of goggles for my swimming workouts, and I could use some advice. I’ve heard mixed things about using racing goggles for training. The staff at the store mentioned they might hurt after a while and may not be the best fit for my purpose since I swim for about 45 minutes each session.
What do you all think? Do you use racing goggles for training, or is there a better option out there?
I used to swim for about an hour each day and tried racing goggles, but I found they were often uncomfortable for longer sessions. Racing goggles are designed for competitive swimming and can be quite tight, which might cause discomfort over time. For regular training, I switched to training goggles with a more comfortable fit and softer seals, which were much better for longer workouts. They offered good visibility and less pressure around the eyes. Based on my experience, I’d recommend looking for goggles specifically designed for training rather than racing one
I adore the Swedish-type goggles: plastic with no foam around the eyes, one piece of elastic tied after producing a loop that serves as a double strap, and a string attaching the goggles. It’s really easy, inexpensive, and effective.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Racing goggles are indeed designed for speed and performance, which often means a tighter fit that can become uncomfortable during longer sessions. Training goggles are typically crafted with comfort in mind, featuring softer seals and more adjustable straps, which can make a significant difference for extended workouts.
For anyone looking to switch from racing to training goggles, here are a few things to consider:
Comfort: Look for goggles with cushioned, soft seals to reduce pressure around the eyes.
Adjustability: Ensure the straps are easily adjustable for a secure, personalized fit.
Visibility: Choose goggles with clear lenses and anti-fog coating to maintain clear vision.
Finding the right pair can greatly enhance your swimming experience and help you train more effectively.
