I have been swimming since I was a kid, but lately, every time I dive or do somersaults underwater, my ears start to hurt. It almost feels like they are being pulled or torn. Is this something I should be worried about ?
It doesn’t sound normal, especially since it just started happening. You should have a doctor check your ears to be safe.
What do you mean by ‘pulled or torn’? Does the pain stop right after you surface, or does it last longer?

The pain lasts for a while after I’m out of the water. It feels like a deep ache.
@Tanner
That sounds serious. It could be related to pressure issues or even an ear infection. You should get it checked soon.
This could be sinus congestion or pressure. I get something similar from time to time, and it usually clears up on its own. But if it keeps happening, definitely see a doctor.

Good point about congestion. Do you ever feel like your nose is blocked when this happens ?
How deep do you go when swimming ? If it’s very deep, it might be from the water pressure affecting your ears.

It’s not super deep, maybe around 10 feet or so.

At 10 feet, pressure can still affect your ears if you aren’t equalizing properly. Try holding your nose and gently blowing to see if that helps.
