My goal is to lose weight and build a somewhat decent physique for when I lose the weight but I was wondering if swimming alone could do it for me or I’d have to lift weights.
You should lift. The amount of muscle built while swimming is nothing compared to lifting even twcie a week.

I lose muscle when I swim more and stop lifting.
@FRANK Focus on progressive overload, if you aren’t progressing then lift more / eat more
Yes, I know. I wasn’t asking for advice or wondering why. It’s easy to figure out. I trained for a few 6-10 mile swims this year and had to drastically reduce my lifting, and the effects were noticeable.

@MSHARK I maintain muscle with 1-2 full-body lifts weekly, gain with 3-4. Balance is key with swimming.
