Help Identifying This Part on My Hayward Pump

I just bought a house with a pool and noticed a leak after a few months. Can anyone tell me what this part on my Hayward pump is called? I want to replace it and the hose. Thanks for your help!

Get one of these and install it properly.

@Terryanne Maybe the 1.5-inch one instead.

The fitting you’re talking about is an Econo Union Fitting, which we use a lot, especially for above-ground pools.

There’s an o-ring under the nut, but it’s probably leaking from the hose. The clamps are set too low, and the fitting has more than an inch of smooth pipe before the barbs. Try moving the clamps up a bit and pull the hose back so it’s not pressed against the nut.

Also, these fittings can crack or warp if the pump runs dry and overheats. Take the fitting apart and check inside. If it’s not round or if you see any dark lines, you’ll need to replace it.

It seems the hose is leaking. It should be a strong pipe, not a hose—specifically, a tough Schedule 40 PVC pipe that’s good for pressure.

The part you’re talking about is probably called a union or high-temp union.

@Gia That’s the hose that comes with the filter. Homeowners usually use it, but pros often toss it out.

It’s okay to use, but there are better options available.
