  • Warm up and stretch before swimming to prevent muscle strains.
  • Avoid swimming under the influence of alcohol or drugs as they can impair judgement and coordination, increasing the risk of accidents.

Be careful before you jump in.
Diving or jumping into shallow water or near large rocks or submerged logs can be perilous. Seek out signs saying “no diving.”

Because swimming conditions can change, inspect the region each time before entering the water. Large boulders, submerged logs, and shallow water can all result in severe harm.

Never Go Swimming by Yourself

Go into the open water with a “swim buddy,” a someone who will watch out for you while you watch out for them.

Recall that the lifeguard is not your “swim buddy”; throughout their shift, they have a large group of individuals to monitor and are unable to worry about the safety of any one individual.

In addition, swimming with a friend will undoubtedly be more enjoyable.

Make An Emergency Plan

Whether you’re swimming with a friend or by yourself, always have a strategy in place for dealing with emergencies.

Tell someone else your intended destination. It’s a good idea to have someone standing by the shore, prepared to help if necessary.

As far as possible, remove any ambiguity by making plans for every potential scenario.
