I want to try this next week. I have already completed a 5k without any problems twice, I think I can do a 10k. If I do this, can I consider that I have completed a marathon swim? I want to stop to rest every 1,000 meters for 2 minutes, what are your thoughts? Any experiences doing this on a 50m pool? I know everyone do this on open waters, but for me this is not possible.
Marathon swimming is open water swimming, with 10 km (6.21 miles) as the unofficial minimum distance.
I say no. Especially since you plan on stopping and using the wall. It’s a long swim, and something to be proud of, but a marathon swim is open water with no touching of a boat, bottom surface, etc. Again, I’m not taking anything away from a solid accomplishment like that, but I wouldn’t label it an”marathon swim” as such.
@Letsgototheriver I find long-distance open water swimming easier than pool swimming—no turns, just a steady rhythm.
And in the open water you don’t get grandad jimbob plopping himself in the fast lane halfway through
Considered by whom? If you’re fundraising, saying you’re completing a 10km swim in a day, that’s impressive in my book and if I knew you I’d donate to your cause
Thanks, I’m doing it just for the feeling and the achievement, but thanks for letting me know, I appreciate it
