Is $1600 Too Much for a Single-Speed Pentair Pump?

Hi,

My pool pump stopped working, and my pool guy quoted me:

  • $1600 for a Pentair single-speed pump
  • $250 for labor

(Southern California)

I searched online and found variable-speed pumps for around the same price at stores like Leslie’s Pool. When I asked him, he claimed online shops are selling aftermarket equipment.

I’m here to confirm if what he said is true. I’ve only owned a pool for a year, and I feel like he might be taking advantage of my limited knowledge.

The meaning of “aftermarket” in this situation is unclear to me. Wow pumps are now quite expensive. My IntelliFlo VS pump has been with me for around 17 years. I hope it doesn’t break.

@AquaAdventurer Pentair offers a new intelliflo 3, but it’s so big that I doubt it would work with your existing pump. The old-style intelliflo has been retired. They’re also very expensive.

I’m in a Philadelphia suburb. In 2022, I spent around $1,800 on labor to install a two speed pentair on a $30,000 inground pool. I would fire him because he is full of trash.

It is against the law to utilize new single-speed pumps with more over one horsepower for filtration. Why doesn’t he simply rebuild the one you have now? Alternatively, upgrade to versus

@Gia To be honest, I had no idea that was against the law. He did mention that my pool and spa require 1.5 horsepower. I’m not sure if he even understands how to program a variable speed pump at this time.
