Is it wrong to instruct a child to cover their nose?

I have a 4-year-old daughter who hates getting water on her face. I’ve been “training” her in the bath to let me pour water on her face. I tell her to plug her nose and hold her breath while I pour water on her face, and then she gets a little marshmallow after :candy:. It’s been going well, but I don’t know how to teach her not to plug her nose, especially since I have to plug my nose too.

Swimming lessons aren’t an option due to the lack of them nearby and my work schedule. I’m just trying to get her more comfortable around water in case an accident ever occurs. Any advice?

Alright, so you’re worried about their safety in the water, but you’re training them to use only one hand when submerged because they’ll be holding their nose with the other.

Teach kids to blow bubbles; that’s a far better plan.

However, the truth is that taking classes is the only way to acquire the necessary abilities to be safe around water.

@Lennon Lessons would be great, however my town only has one pool, and lessons are only offered in the mornings on weekdays. I am unable to take enough regular time off work to attend lessons. An hour away is the next nearest pool with lessons.

Here is a tip to help her get comfortable with water on her face without plugging her nose:

Blowing Bubbles: Encourage her to blow bubbles in the water. This can be done in the bath.
Show her how to blow out through her nose and mouth to make bubbles. This helps her learn to control her breath and get used to having water around her nose.

it is bad to need to hold your nose all the time underwater but not bad to do so when the situation requires it.
