I just began swimming on a doctor’s advice, and while I hope to remain with it, my main objective is to gain muscle because I am not very big. May swimming aid in the development of a well-defined physique? (upper torso) Since I think that professional swimmers also lift weights, looking at them does not provide an answer, thus I wanted to question this community.

You can gain muscle through swimming but resistance training with progressive overload (ie bodyweight or weight training) and a caloric surplus (+350-500 above active TDEE; with 150g macronutrient protein) will be of better use.

Hello, swimming alone can help you grow muscle, but combining it with a weight circuit will help you reach your target faster.
I have been a competitive swimmer for a long time. My back, triceps, shoulders, and abs have all grown significantly in size without any exercise. However, you eventually reach a plateau and stop gaining muscle. Yes, it does aid with muscle growth. But you will eventually need to work out in the weight room.
