Is weight more important than volume for floating?

I always thought heavier things sink, but now I hear it’s about volume too. Can someone explain?

It’s not just about weight. A big object can float if it displaces enough water, even if it’s heavy.

Exactly. A cruise ship weighs thousands of tons but floats because of the water it displaces.

Think of a small, dense object like a nail. It sinks because its density is greater than water’s.
