Just sharing my 5k time. Maybe someone can get motivated

Wow, that’s incredibly fast.

Something feels off about this.
I wonder if you had a strong current.

It seems unlikely for someone to swim at that pace without a background in competitive swimming.

1:05 per 100M is an amazing pace to maintain over that distance.

Just out of curiosity, when did you start swimming and how old are you now? :slight_smile:

I’m 24. Been swimming since last August. I’m 6’0 and weigh 160 lbs.

Wow, that’s pretty incredible! You’ve never swum competitively? Your heart rate doesn’t seem too high for a 24-year-old either. How did you get so efficient so quickly? So many questions… lol

@Briley
I swam in the Marines but never competitively. My heart rate is usually between 158-168. I can push it to a max of 178 if someone is tailing me. I use a 2-4 beat kick and make sure to extend with every stroke.

Also, just to clarify, I swam in the Marines for fitness, not distance, until last August.

Was this a standard pool, long course, or open water? Impressive either way, but I suspect it’s short course.

It was open water.

The activity shows a pool swim? I didn’t think GPS worked in that setting.

That’s very impressive then! Was there a current?

@Emmy
No current. It was a bit windy, but a stand-up paddle kayak shielded most of it.

That’s an absolutely amazing pace.

I struggle to swim 1km that fast. Actually, I’d have a hard time swimming 500m at that speed!

You’re near the Ironman swim course record. Can you bike and run too?

Congrats!

Congrats!

I’ll pay you to take care of the bike part for me.
