Plaster color and number of lights

Hi everyone, I’m planning a new pool build and have a question about plaster colour and lighting. Does the colour of the plaster affect how many lights I need? For example, would I need more lights to get the same brightness as a lighter plaster if I choose a darker plaster? Thanks!

Darker plaster soaks up more light.

You can use the size of the pool’s surface to figure out how many lights you’ll need to light it up completely at night.

Refrain from using dark plaster unless you also use pebble. The pool’s shape and size decide how many lights you need, not the color of the plaster.

The shape and length of the pool matter more than the color of the plaster. Builders often say you need more lights than you actually do. I got one quote saying I needed 6 lights, another saying 4, and another saying 2. But my pool only needs one light because it’s just a play pool.

I’ve read that dark plaster soaks up light, and I’ve looked into it a lot. I want dark plaster for my remodel, but I’m not going to use it because it needs more light than I have. I only have one light and no space for another. I’ve seen photos showing that dark plaster only lights up one part of the pool.

We used dark blue plaster and followed Fluidria’s tips for how many lights to use and where to put them. They didn’t mention anything about plaster color, but they did talk about how deep the pool should be and the shapes of pools.
