Hi all,
Looking for advice. My saltwater pool has suddenly stopped producing chlorine, and the water is cloudy. We’ve had a lot of rain here in North Carolina, so I’ve had to drain the pool often to prevent overflow. The chemicals were fine until yesterday when my chlorine levels hit 0. My chlorinator was set to 15% (usually fine), but I bumped it to 25%. Still no chlorine today, and the water is cloudy.
This morning, I cleaned and recharged the DE filter, but after a few hours, chlorine levels are still at 0. The salt cell reads fine, and there are no flow issues. Both the cell and the panel show no problems.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? Should I clean the salt cell next?
When was the last cleaning of the salt cell? If your water is really hard, you may need to clean them more frequently than once every three months. Is there enough salt in it? It won’t read low, but it also won’t be at its best, if your cell indicates 3600 ppm and the pool is operating at 3000 ppm.
For the following 12 to 24 hours, run the filter with super chlorinate, shock, or liquid. I may think about adding clarifier and perhaps an algae control if you were a sophisticated chemical client, but it would rely on other circumstances.
You should shock the pool first if it rained a much. For a full day, you may over chlorinate and observe any changes. Even though the chlorinator indicates that it is operating, it may occasionally be off. Make sure the salt content is proper as well; if it is too low, the chlorinator won’t function.
