The gym employee mentioned that the LA Fitness pool is a “junior Olympic” size. Does that mean it’s 25 meters or 25 yards?
In the United States, many neighborhood pools you might see are called “Junior Olympic” pools, even though they aren’t for the actual Olympics! These pools are typically 25 yards long (a little shorter than 23 meters) and are perfect for local swim competitions between communities. Real Olympic swimming pools, on the other hand, are much bigger - a whole 50 meters long!
Back when I was in Europe, we measured up to 25 meters to the exact. I think in the US, 25 yards would suffice. I stand corrected though as I lived in Sweden most of my life
Frequently, a pool that is 25 yards in size—rather than 25 meters—is referred to as “junior Olympic.”
Swimming pools that meet Olympic standards have a length of 50 metres. In the United States, a high school pool and most community pools include a 25-yard pool, which is considered a “junior Olympic” pool.
It follows that the LA Fitness pool, assuming it is indeed referred to as “junior Olympic” size, is probably 25 yards in length rather than 25 metres. Although the full Olympic size pool, measuring 50 metres, is only used for big competitions, the 25-yard pool is frequently used for training and leisure.
