It really depends on the club. It might help to take some lessons to learn the basics of the other strokes first. You’ll want to be able to swim at least 50 yards of other strokes and have some basic skills.
Just manage your expectations; there might be swimmers in the faster lanes moving much faster than you with seemingly no effort. It’s just part of the experience.

You’ll be fine! A lot of runners end up in our master’s group.
