I discovered an extra bottle of winterizing algaecide from last year hidden behind some shelves. Can this be used during the summer, or does it contain ingredients that might negatively impact the water in hot weather?
I’d like to use this extra bottle rather than letting it go to waste, but I will continue to use my usual algaecide as well. Thanks!

Why are you using algaecide if it seems like you don’t really need it? Why use unnecessary chemicals?

The issue with bottled algaecides is keeping track of the amount used and the timing of application. While mixing different brands might be acceptable, it can be cumbersome.
That’s why I prefer PoolRx. I simply install a new unit at the start and end of the season. It’s straightforward and fits seamlessly into my routine.

I rely solely on a salt water generator for chlorine and use acid to adjust the pH, ensuring the appropriate level of CYA. After performing a SLAM to eliminate algae and keeping the chlorine and pH levels balanced with the correct CYA amount, algaecide becomes unnecessary. Check the label on the bottle.
