Waikiki Natatorium

Found out about this abandoned beauty over on r/Honolulu (I live on the Big Island). Looks like there’s some momentum on trying to get it restored, too!

Scene of the finale of the greatest episode of “Magnum, PI” ever, “Death and Taxes”.

I’ve seen enough Deep Blue Sea to know that’s not going to keep anything out.

If a shark did get in but not out, it’ll be f*ing hangry as well.

Aw damn, I didn’t know it was abandoned. I’d love to swim there!

How are those built? Is like a pier/columns? Or if it’s fully walled, does it get filled as the waves go over the rim?

So many questions

Second picture makes it look like it’s a wall with baffles to allow limited circulation and keep bigger critters out, and then a floating dock at each end for entry/exit/turns. To do it naturally like that though, it’d have to be pretty deep so you didn’t have the shallow end *too* shallow (and/or dry) at low tide.

I want to swim here so bad!

That’s so pretty

…can sharks get in there? It looks like there could be sharks in there :face_with_peeking_eye:
