Whats Considered an Average Swimming Speed

Hi everyone, I am new to the sub but have been swimming for a while.

I am curious about the average pace for a semi-fit person in their 30s.

Welcome to the swimming community! :man_swimming: The average pace for a semi-fit person in their 30s can vary, but a general benchmark in the pool might be around 1:40 to 2:10 per 100 meters. This pace is sustainable and a good target if you’re swimming longer distances, like 1000 meters. If you’re sprinting a shorter distance, like a 100-meter dash, you might aim for a faster pace, perhaps around 1:30 to 1:35 per 100 meters.

Remember, these are just ballpark figures and your pace can depend on many factors like technique, stamina, and the type of swimming (pool vs open water). It’s always a good idea to track your own times and progress against your personal fitness goals. Happy swimming!

The average pace for a semi-fit person in their 30s can vary widely based on several factors such as swimming experience, technique, and fitness level. However, based on discussions from swimmers and various resources, a ballpark figure for an average pace might be around 1:40 to 2:10 per 100 meters for someone who is semi-fit

Different swimming strokes have varying speeds. Freestyle, also known as front crawl, is typically the fastest, followed by backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

The average swim time is typically around 13 to 14 hours, so covering 33 kilometers in 14 hours equates to a pace of approximately 2 minutes and 36 seconds per 100 meters.
