They are making a mess on the steps, crapping in the landscaping, pissing on the deck, and judging by the grubby paw prints, it looks like they’re trying to get into the hot tub. Leaving a light on at night doesn’t help. I don’t want to trap them, just want to discourage them. Any advice?

I had an issue with raccoons pooping on the top step of my pool, where the water is about 4 inches deep. I created submersible spike strips to place on that step, and it worked incredibly well—no more raccoons leaving a mess in my pool.

@Terryanne Oh, I have some plastic ones I use to keep pigeons out of my eaves! I’ll use the extras on some old angle iron. Genius!

Give them food, they won’t be able to swim for 30 minutes after eating.

Capture them and move them elsewhere. I managed to catch one, and the rest of the group witnessed it and avoided coming into the yard afterward.
