I replaced the seals behind my pool pump’s impeller to fix a leak. The leak is gone, but now every time I turn on the pump, the screw holding the impeller comes loose. The impeller won’t turn, and the pump stops working. What am I doing wrong?
The majority of impellers threaded on and the spin would remain engaged regardless of the particular pump; even those with set screws are threaded on.
Which pump? These days, the majority of pumps have an impeller that fastens to the shaft. Only in the event of backflow is the impeller screw present. If the water is forced backwards through the pump, it prevents the impeller from unscrewing. It seems like you might require a new impeller. Of the impellers that should have screws, the impeller screw is missing about half the time I work on a pump.
It’s possible that you connected the pump incorrectly, causing it to spin in the reverse direction and loosen the screw.
They are reverse threaded, so just in case you are as stupid as I am, you might not be tightening it correctly. You may already be aware of this, but I didn’t, so I fucking broke mine.
@BreaststrokeBuff Am backing you up on this
