Is the University pool really bigger in Texas

I take a swim conditioning class here and we use the smaller pool where the diving well is. I go 3 times a week in the mornings and I love it. Usually the D1 swimmers are training at the larger pool so the energy is really great.

Have you seen the new outdoor pool next to it? It’s beautiful. Swimming outside is the best

Not yet! This is my first semester taking the class and it’s been too cold to swim outside. I can’t wait to use the outdoor pool once it gets warmer

@Clay
The outdoor pool is heated

Is that UT Austin? I used to swim there around 1995 during my undergrad. Didn’t know how good I had it

Yep it’s UT! Unfortunately they don’t allow public access anymore, if they did I would be here every day

@Clay
There are many great public pools in Austin. Lots of them are 33 1/3 yards

Are you talking feet or yards

Here’s my list of pools I have raced in:

  1. IUPUI
  2. University of Texas
  3. Indiana University
  4. Missouri University
  5. Rec-Plex St. Peters, Missouri
  6. Delta State
  7. Miami University in Ohio
  8. Southern Illinois not the best pool but I got a best time so it made my list

Least Favorite nice pool:
There was an unheated outdoor Olympic sized pool near Clearwater, FL that my college team trained in during the winter. We raced another college during one of our practices while we were there. Clearwater had freezing temperatures at night, and our coach made us do triples in that freezing pool. We had to sprint to keep warm. That was the most exhausting and cold experience of my life. Everyone was miserable. So yeah, I hate that pool

@Merritt
Were you on an Ozark team at some point? Most of my meets happened at a lot of these pools

No I went on a recruiting trip to Missouri-Rolla. Back then it was a decent engineering school. I was a typical 18 year old and asked, ‘May I ask where are all the girls?’ I found out the college was 80% male and crossed them off my list quickly.

My alma mater. I really love this pool. It’s always a treat to swim here

Love this school and love this pool

This is the pool of legends where so many greats have trained

I spent many years swimming in that pool as a grad student at UT. It is amazing

How do you like their masters program? I’m moving to Austin and deciding between this program and the Austin swim club. Do you swim outdoors?

@Echo
It’s been almost 20 years, so it’s probably quite different now. The outdoor pool didn’t exist when I was there. I can’t give much advice on it. Sorry!

Thanks anyway

It’s on another level. In Ireland, there are only 2 Olympic size swimming pools that I know of. I would love to have easy access to one

It’s very cool. The size might not seem impressive but it’s considered one of the fastest pools in the world because of its features, so it’s insane to swim in!
